This coin jump experiment is simple & mess free! What more can you ask for :)
Minimal supplies involved – but my kids were still just as shocked as they are with other extravagant experiments.
Here is everything you’ll need:
- Plastic pop bottle
- Quarter
- Glass of water (any temp)
Directions:
- Put your plastic bottle into the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. You want it to be nice and cold.

2. Take your bottle out of the freezer & set it on a hard surface. You want it to stand upright on it’s own.
3. Fill a small glass with water (any temperature works).
4. Dip a quarter into the water and set on the top/opening of the bottle.

5. Watch what happens! The coin will start to “jump” up and down!

The science behind this: As the bottle starts to warm up from coming out of the freezer – the air will try to escape the bottle – making the coin jump!
Super easy one to set up for your kids & there’s no mess!
