Puffy Paint Snowflakes

Puffy Paint Snowflakes

These puffy paint snowflakes are so much fun to make!

Have you seen other puffy painting that includes shaving cream & glue? That way of painting is a lot of fun too, but it doesn’t harden well enough to hang on the fridge. These puffy paint snowflakes will harden in the microwave – perfect for hanging & keepsakes!

Joke of the day: What falls in the winter but never gets hurt? SNOW!

Materials you’ll need:

  1. White paper
  2. Blue paper
  3. Pencil
  4. Glue stick
  5. Paint brush
  6. 1 spoonful of flour (all purpose flour – if you have self rising flour, skip the salt & baking soda)
  7. 1 spoonful of salt
  8. 1 spoonful of baking soda
  9. Water – eye ball this amount until you get a paint consistency
  10. Food coloring
  11. Microwave

Directions:

  1. Draw your snowflake designs onto your sheet of white paper.
  2. Mix together your flour, salt, baking soda, food coloring, and water.
  3. Use your mixture to paint over your snow flake drawings! Put it on a little thick (see pictures below).
  4. Place paper in the microwave for 5-10 seconds.
  5. Remove from the microwave to reveal your puffy snowflakes – so fun!

Why I love this craft:

  • It’s a part science – part crafting – project. My kids had so much fun with it!
  • There’s a different result each time which is so fun to watch.
  • They look amazing hanging on the fridge for winter!

FAQ’S:

  • Is it safe to put paper in the microwave? We put ours in the microwave for 10 seconds & it worked perfectly fine. I wouldn’t set in the microwave for extended amounts of time.
  • Is it safe if my toddler eats this? This is a taste safe craft! If your toddler licks a little a bit, it will be safe. Please don’t let them sit there and eat this though.
