Snowman Ornament

Snowman Ornament

Who else loves a handmade ornament from their kids?! These are easy to make and are definitely one I will be keeping forever. This snowman ornament is also an easy way to upcycle your cardboard this holiday season. I know I will have tons of boxes to reuse!

Random fact: Did you know that the first illustration of a snowman appeared in a book called “Book of Hours” from way back in 1380. I like to share random facts like this with my kids while we are crafting, I thought I would share it with all of you too!

Here are the materials you’ll need:

  1. Cardboard
  2. White paint
  3. Paint brush
  4. Gems
  5. Glue
  6. Ribbon
  7. Photo
  8. Black paper

Directions:

  1. Cut your cardboard into your snowman shape. You can use scissors or an exacto knife – both work great! I find that it’s easier to cut if you make sure the grooves in the cardboard are horizontal.

2. Paint the entire front with white paint. We used acrylic paint, but any type of paint works great. Allow it to dry completely before moving onto step 3.

3. Add your gems using glue. These will be your snowman’s buttons. If you don’t have gens you could also use a hole punch or scissors and make paper buttons. Both would look great!

4. Wrap a ribbon around the neck of the snowman. We tied ours on with a double knot & it holds up perfectly.

5. Glue a photo onto the snowman’s head.

6. Cut out a hat from your black paper & glue onto the top of the snowman’s head. I freehanded the hat but you could always trace it off of google images!

7. Glue a ribbon loop to the back for hanging on the tree.

8. You’re finished!
